The NRL has taken over New York’s Times Square as preparations ramp op for next week’s historic season opener in Las Vegas.

The NRL made a splash in one of the busiest areas in the world by projecting a virtual reality rugby league ball above the street line.

Above the Steeden is a billboard showing a highlights package showing all the biggest plays of last season.

The only place to watch both games of the Las Vegas opening double-header live is Fox League, available on Kayo. New to Kayo? Start your free trial today >

It’s estimated more than 300,000 people walk past the billboard every day and the promotion is all part of the NRL’s bold plan to crack the America’s saturated sports market.

Rugby league is being promoted coast to coast in the US as the NRL looks to lock in a five-year broadcast deal to screen NRL matches live on American prime time television.

The season openers on Sunday week AEDT will be screened live in prime time on Fox Sports 1, which reaches more than 90 million American homes.

The Rabbitohs-Sea Eagles clash will be broadcast at 6.30pm local time followed by the Broncos-Roosters match at 8.30pm.

ARLC chairman Peter V’landys is tyring to lock in a five-year broadcast deal.
