Jim Harbaugh is back in the NFL, accepting the vacant head coaching job with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Fresh off leading Michigan to a college football national championship, Harbaugh has elected to try his hand again in the NFL, nine years since he left the San Francisco 49ers.
Harbaugh went 44-19 in his four seasons at the helm of the 49ers, leading the team to a Super Bowl (loss to Baltimore) and two NFC Championship games before leaving to take the Michigan job after the 2014 season.

That move gave Harbaugh the distinction of becoming the first NFL head coach with a winning record to depart for a college team.
After nine years at Michigan, Harbaugh would finally deliver his alma mater their first national championship in over 25 years.
The successful 2023 college football campaign wasn’t without controversy though, with Harbaugh copping a three-game suspension as part of an investigation into a sign-stealing scandal.
With the shift to the NFL though, Harbaugh has essentially wiped his hands clean of any potential future punishment the school may face for the scandal.
Harbaugh will now be tasked with turning around the fortunes of the Chargers, who severely underperformed last season with a 5-12 record.
Quarterback Justin Herbert is regarded as one of the most talented at the position, and with stars like Keenan Allen at wide receiver, Khalil Mack at linebacker, defensive back Derwin James and the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Harbaugh steps into arguably the most desirable head coaching vacancy this off-season.
