A couple of Queensland teams have copped brutal injury blows during the second week of the Pre-Season Challenge.

Luckless Dolphin Tom Gilbert has likely suffered an ACL tear while the Cowboys believe Coen Hess has also sustained a serious knee injury.

Hess walked off unassisted in the first minute of the second half, but was seen dejectedly limping from the dressing room to the bench soon after.

The only place to watch both games of the Las Vegas opening double-header live is Fox League, available on Kayo. New to Kayo? Start your free trial today >

Fox League’s Matt Russell said Hess will have scans but the Cowboys fear a “pretty significant knee injury”.

DOLPHINS FEAR LUCKLESS GILBERT OUT FOR SEASON

There are fears Dolphins star Tom Gilbert suffered an ACL tear after the representative forward went down with a non-contact injury in the 34-22 loss to the Warriors.

The aggressive forward missed most of the 2023 season after he injured his shoulder in game one of the State of Origin series.

Gilbert was on the comeback trail and poised for a big season for the Dolphins, but there are grave fears that he has suffered a major right knee injury after he changed direction and went down four minutes into the second half with his side down 18-6.

It would be a devastating blow for Gilbert and the Dolphins given how much they missed him last year, with the former Cowboy establishing himself as one of the best young forwards in the game.

Depth was a major issue for the Dolphins last year and they have more concerns with halfback Sean O’Sullivan in HIA protocols after he was forced off in the opening five minutes and didn’t return.

Gilbert will have scans on Monday while O’Sullivan will be able to play in Round 1 under the HIA rules, with the team’s first round clash against the Cowboys outside of the mandatory 11-day stand down period.
